Dragon Drew, a three year old colt by GET STORMY, beat a tough field by four lengths in the $50,000 Black Gold Overnight Stakes at Fair Grounds on Saturday to become his sires newest stakes winner. Got Stormy, a three year old filly by GET STORMY, graduated in a Gulfstream Maiden Special Weight on Sunday going one mile on turf in 1:35.00. She was making her first start for trainer Mark Casse, after being acquired privately by owner Gary Barber. Got Stormy was bred, foaled, raised and sold by Crestwood Farm.

STORM RUNNER POINTED TO G2 FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH FOR DERBY PREP

Recent Gulfstream Allowance winner Storm Runner (GET STORMY) will be pointed towards the $400,000 G2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream as a Derby Prep.

That Ragozin figure is faster than any of Barry Irwin’s previous Derby runners at this stage of the game, including Animal Kingdom, Captain Bodgit, Went the Day Well and The Deputy, who all scored major prep wins in March or April.”

FIRING LINE SIRES FIRST FOALS!

Firing Line, a precocious G1-Juvenile who finished a close second to American Pharoah in the 2015 G1-Kentucky Derby, has sired his first two foals.

The first was a colt foaled in Kentucky at Crestwood Farm. He is out of the Petionville mare, Honorville, who was a multiple winning mare that earned $108,040 on the race track. “He’s a nice size, very correct. He is going to be a classy colt!” said Marc McLean.

The second was another colt foaled in Kentucky at Flying H Stables, LLC. He is out of Alexandria J (Forest Camp), a multiple winning mare of $133,425 who is out of the stakes placed mare, Diamond Affair ($104,488). Kent Hersman of Flying H Stables, LLC said “I plan to bring Alexandria J back to Firing Line. It would be hard to beat the physical I see on this colt!”

Firing Line was a top class Graded stakes winner and multiple G1-placed earner of $976,000. A precocious two year old, he won a maiden special weight at Del Mar by 4-1/2 lengths, and then ran second by a head to Dortmund in the $500,000 G1-Los Alamitos Futurity. He rolled that form into his three year old year where he was a top Classic contender in 2015. He ran second in the $2,000,000 G1-Kentucky Derby, beaten just a length by Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah. He set a new track record in the $800,000 G3-Sunland Derby, winning by 14-1/4 lengths. During his career he defeated G1-winners: Frosted, Dortmund, Carpe Diem, Keen Ice, etc.

Firing Line comes from an active female family, full of Graded winners including; recent G1-Cigar Mile winner Sharp Azteca, along with many other champions, G1-winners, etc.

Firing Line retired to Crestwood in 2017 and bred a quality first book of mares. He ranked #1 by CPI and #2 by CI for all first year KY Stallions standing under $10,000 LF with more than 50 bred.

CRESTWOOD BRED BOWIES HERO BEATEN A HALF LENGTH IN G3

Bowies Hero, who was just coming off a victory in the G2-Mathis Brothers Mile Stakes, ran a close second to Om in the G3-Thunder Road Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday. They finished the mile on turf in 1:33.54. Bowies Hero was bred, foaled, raised and sold by Crestwood Farm.
