XTRA HEAT NEWS

XTRA HEAT AT STUD

Eclipse champion XTRA HEAT was represented by the below mentioned foal, a colt by Gone West at the Keeneland 2005 September Yearling Sale.  Breeders Classic Star were not willing to part with him for a final bid of $600,000 RNA (reserve not attained).  Follow this link  to see the pedigree page.

XTRA HEAT RETIRED

Xtra Heat has been retired from racing.

She was found to be in-foal to the cover of GONE WEST.  She is scheduled to be bred to perennial leading sire STORM CAT in 2004.

XTRA HEAT BREAKS SUSAN’S GIRL RECORD

XTRA HEAT emerged from the fog to win the Grade II Barbara Fritchie Handicap at Laurel Park on February 22.  Rick Wilson put her on the right hip of fellow Grade I winner CARSON HOLLOW.  She put away that rival on the turn, drawing clear and never challenged through the stretch.  Her 25th career stakes win breaks the previous record held by SUSANS GIRL.  Up next:  a return trip to Dubai and with a victory another all-time record, that of richest female runner in North American history.

XTRA HEAT TIES SUSAN’S GIRL RECORD

XTRA HEAT warmed up for the Grade II Barbara Fritchie Handicap with a facile score in the $60,000 What A Summer Stakes.  Rick Wilson never urged her as she stopped got six furlongs in 1:09 2/5, a winner by 2¾ lengths.

XTRA HEAT was second, beaten 2¼ lengths in the Listed Garland of Roses Handicap at Aqueduct.  After breaking about as sluggishly as she ever has, Rick Wilson got her to the lead after a quarter in 22 and 2.  John Velazquez drove mud-lark DAT YOU MIZ BLUE to the lead on the turn, sweeping 4-wide through a half in :57 1/5.  Heat gave futile chase down the lane, the teletimer stopping in 1:10.10.

XTRA HEAT finished sixth, beaten five lengths in the NAPA Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Arlington Park.

XTRA HEAT
"finally" beats the boys
in Keenelands Grade III $250,000 Phoenix Breeders’ Cup.  Of course, critics of the filly fail to recognize she beat all the boys (except one) in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint.  The sponsor of that race may have changed (Penske to NAPA) since last year, but they will all have her to beat once again as she is headed immediately for Chicago.

In the photo at the left, diminutive Xtra Heat, smaller than her lead pony and almost smaller than her saddle towel, waits relaxed and professional behind the starting gate at Keeneland before the Phoenix Breeders' Cup. It is as if she is saying bring on the boys, I am ready are they?

XTRA HEAT defends her title  in the Grade III Endine Stakes at Delaware Park.

XTRA HEAT scored a facile victory in the $122,000 Straight Deal Breeders’ Cup at 7 furlongs on August 10.  The defending champ in this event (six furlongs held last year at Pimlico) was allowed to leave the gate without encouragement.  She was stalked by Winter Leaf, shook free from her on the turn, opened a 4-length lead coming into the stretch in 1:10.06.  Finishing under own energy, she stopped the teletimer in 1:23.06.

Weight, pace too much as XTRA HEAT suffers first loss to fillies at 6 furlongs

XTRA HEAT first EVER to complete Genuine Risk/Vagrancy Double.

XTRA HEAT wins Genuine Risk H (G2)

In 34 starts, she has bankrolled $2,269,635. Since breaking her maiden for a tag, she has competed in 33 consecutive stakes races. She has won twenty-four of those--ten graded, one Grade I. Her other seven starts resulted in four Grade I placings, second in two Grade II events.  She has been off-the-board in just two races, the 2000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and the 2002 NAPA Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). Only five fillies have ever finished in front of her in one-turn races, CAT CHAT, VICTORY RIDE, KALOOKAN QUEEN, GOLD MOVER, and DAT YOU MIZ BLUE.

XTRA HEAT in DUBAI.

On March 23rd, Xtra Heat ran a game third to her male nemesis Caller One and Eddie Echo in the Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1). She proved herself consistent and tough as usual even more than half-way around the world.

XTRA HEAT kept her score for 2002 perfect, winning the Barbara Fritchie (G2) at Laurel on February 16. Carrying highweight of 128 lbs. (and spotting the field a stone) was not enough to stop this equine freight train as she held sway by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:223.

On January 1 she won the Interborough H (L) at Aqueduct with consummate ease. Never looking like anything but the winner, she kept her inner-track mark pristine, drawing off by 5½ at the line.
